New thankful-y ness :: 51-60

Let’s all just be honest, blogging has fallen off the edge of my priorities. I could (and likely will) make excuses, tell you about how busy I am, how I’m out and about, and all of that would be true. But let’s make a little deal-I promise I won’t apologize about my infrequent blogging from now on as long as you don’t hold it against me…deal? Deal.

Ok, on to the good stuff.

Our house has completely changed over this last week, and while I knew we were in a position of needed change…I had no idea how much we were stuck in our ruts.

After coming off of a completely fabulous vacation to the Finger Lakes region of New York, we embarked on some brand new ventures this week.

Jon started with a new company on Monday. The implications of this include some of the following: an earlier wake-up and bed time (for both of us because Jon can not wake up to an alarm), a transition from a home (meaning here) office base to a downtown Chicago office full time, no evening or weekend phone calls—what?!?! If you’ve been around us in the last 8ish years, Jon has perpetually been on call and this aspect of our lives is now gone. It’s wonderful. Perhaps you missed the other piece-Jon now actually has a weekend, a weekend consisting of two days off, in a row, without phone calls, texts, late-night emergencies.

After spending our couple time together primarily after work/school days or after church on Sundays, having a whole day off together from start to finish is something that we are oh-so-excited about.

For me, I have entered the single greatest internship I could have EVER asked for. I don’t mean to sound too dramatic (but I kind of do)…I. love. what. I’m. doing. every. single. minute. of. every. single. day.

Eh? How’s that for the drama?

I’m now in my final 12 week internship (one week down). I’m in my local school system, primarily working with kids who are differently-abled in one way, shape, or form. I will never post publicly about anything more than that, but I can for-sure tell you that I will hunt down Occupational Therapy jobs with children like a mad woman once I graduate. The district I am interning in is a good one. About 1,000 OTs apply for open positions (which there never are-and I’m not exaggerating much with the 1,000), and now you can just add my name to the list. It’s just been a great experience already and I’m only one week in.

Oh! I was going to write a thankfulness list. I’m sure you can probably guess some of what I’m thankful for already. On we go…

This week, I’m thankful for:

51. Jon’s new job.

52. My internship.

53. More time at home to make some pretty delicious meals (insert patting myself on the back motion).

54. Quiet times.

55. Exercising (and some time to do it).

56. Weekends with Jon.

57. God’s provision for our family.

58. Wonderful getaways.

59. The kids I work with that always teach me infinitely more than I will ever teach them.

60. Our church. It continues to be such a place of support and assurance for both of us. How grateful we are that God brought us to this body of believers.

Now, in the words of my dear Carrie

What are YOU thankful for this week?

This is so exciting! Going from “on call” 24/7 to a more structured or “regular” schedule is such a huge gift. It will have an enormous impact on your stress level!
And how awesome is it that you’re living your internship? Very awesome. That’s how awesome.

Now, get yourself into te city so we can hang out again sometime soon!
